Village of Angel Fire Community Wildfire Protection Plan

ROW Thinning Project

Starting in May 2010 the Village will be surveying and thinning the public rights-of-way that make up the evacuation routes in the event of a wildfire.  These routes were established in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). All work will be done on PUBLIC PROPERTY ONLY.  It should be noted that the typical Village right-of-way is sixty feet (60’) wide while the typical gravel road is twenty four feet (24’) wide and is generally centered inside the right-of-way.

These rights-of-way include: Back Basin Road, El Camino Real, Vail Loop, Vail Overlook, Ute Valley Road, Camino Real and Luna Road on the east side  AND Via Del Rey, Spyglass Road, Woodlands Dr., Taos Dr., and Zia Road on the west side.

The phasing of the project will be as follows:

1.  Survey all of the rights-of-way listed above.

2.  Identify / mark all trees and vegetation to be removed.

3.  Allow home owners a short period of time to collect cut timber for firewood.

4.  Sell balance of cut timber to Commercial Cutters

5.  Pick up remaining slash for disposal.

This project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2011.
